 Lessons from the Wild

Submissions open NOV 15 - DEC 1, 2020

Description:

The natural world is an incredible giver. Not only does it provide us with everything we need to survive — food, water, material, medicine, nutrients — but it inspires us to live more meaningful, introspective, compassionate lives.

Nature informs virtually every industry in our modern life, across engineering and the arts, architecture and fashion. There is so much to learn from the systems and models in the natural world around us. And nature is a powerful teacher of important life values; it reminds us to live with conscientious awareness of our individual impact on the world around us. The natural world asks us to live with purpose and with intense appreciation of everything it provides.

For this round of submissions, we ask you to consider what the natural world has taught you. How have your experiences in nature affected the person you are today? Perhaps there’s a particular natural place that’s special to you; a childhood camping trip that gave you greater confidence in yourself; a creek near your house that speaks to you with its tranquility. Whatever it may be, we want to hear about what you are grateful to have learned from the wisdom of the wilderness around you.

Proceeds from this contest will go to the Wilderness Youth Project (WYP), a Santa Barbara-based non-profit whose mission is to empower "young people and families through active outdoor experiences and mentoring."
